Apps Marketplace Need to Filter Its Apps
Privacy is a major concern right now. Social media and mobile apps are arriving in droves daily. To use them, we do need to provide real life information. It is therefore prone to misuse by the apps providers. A recent article from The Droid Guy indicates that "iOS Apps Collect More Personal Information than Android apps, says Study".
A good take from the article is that both Google and Apple can actually do something about it by filtering apps to use only what is needed.
Apps on App Store as well as Play Store, generally take up more permissions from user than required. For instance- Why does a shooting game need permission to read SMS/ make calls? Why does a newsreader app require permission to capture photos? If Apple and Google could filter the permission owned by each and every app and make sure they only do what they intend to do, maybe we would have less privacy concerns. Also, while downloading/installing, apps should clearly mention what permissions they need and why they need it. Everything should be mentioned in plain, easy-to-understand language. Most people don’t understand complex tech jargons. And, Apple as well as Google should devise mechanisms that prevents apps from identifying user preferences and collecting personal data.
Source: The Droid GuyI completely agree with that article, it is the Apps Marketplace Owner task to filter them and requires that apps use permission that is needed. But, I do not think any of them will do it. It takes too much time and strict requirements means less apps.

Next Gen Google Nexus 7 Rumor
![]() |
Back in January reports and rumors started floating around that Google and ASUS look to continue their partnership on a 7-inch portable and budget-friendly tablet, and this seems to back that up. The initial report suggested a thinner bezel, more industrial design, the HD display and more as mentioned above. And now we’re hearing a few more reports that are getting us excited.
Some reports and analysis were dug up from the folks at UnwiredView stating Google will jump ship from NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 (or possibly the Tegra 4) and opt for Qualcomm’s Snapdragon S4 Pro for multiple reasons. One being excellent battery life as Qualcomm’s continued to improve, and then the other main factor being 3G/4G LTE radios under the hood. Having the entire Snapdragon S4 Pro SoC powering the device would be a good move to help keep costs down.

Transform Your Kindle Fire into Full Android Tablet
Got a Kindle Fire 2 ? Want an Android Tablet with Google Play Store ? Now you can transform your Kindle Fire into an Android Tablet 4.2 Jelly Bean. Thanks to CynanogenMod 10.1.
Some features are not performing well, as noted by Ubergizmo:
Some features are not performing well, as noted by Ubergizmo:
The thing is, the Kindle Fire 2 is not the fastest tablet on the block, so that kind of defeats the purpose, but at least it opens up options to the masses. Be warned though, CyanogenMod 10.1 for the Kindle Fire 2 will not support hardware video acceleration, meaning you cannot stream HD video from YouTube and Netflix, and you will also experience a higher battery drain during sleep while your headset microphones remain gimped. Also remember, by using custom ROM such as CynanogenMod, you are voiding your warranty. There is always one possibility of "bricking" your tablet. So, upgrade at your own risk.

Effect of Google Nexus pricing on cheap tablets
Google is brewing a storm of its own. With the recent release of Google Nexus 4 and Nexus 10, and Nexus 7 in July, Google is sending a message to Android tablet manufacturers: "Step up on your quality". The aggressive pricing of Google Nexus product line, together with high quality build of Nexus is forcing Android tablet OEM to rethink their product.
The majority of the tablet market are in the low-end market, where price is top consideration. This is why we see a lot of Chinese build tablets with all kind of brand popping up left and right. These tablets are poorly build that using them takes a lot of patience.
Google seems to understand this problem, and are undercutting their competitor by pricing their Nexus product aggressively. Surely we will soon see an improvement in the quality of cheap good tablet.
Local media reports said Taiwanese telecom operators and mobile device enthusiasts were astounded by the low prices being offered by Google for its sleek new gadgets.
They were quoted as predicting that Google's new hardware, including the Nexus 4 smartphone, new Nexus 7 tablets that come in new Wi-Fi models, and Nexus 10 tablets, will create strong competition for their rivals.
"Google's pricing strategy is amazing and could stir up a superstorm in the consumer electronics market ahead of the year-end holiday shopping season," one market analyst forecast.
Market research firm Digitimes Research also said that Google has offered high-end products at cheap prices that will pile pressure on their competitors.
Source: Focus TaiwanAs we all know, most Android tablet are of questionable quality, only tablets from well known manufacturers such as Samsung and Asus are of excellent build. Those tablets however, do come with a steep price.

“These tabs usually cost around Rs 5,000-5,600, with almost every basic feature you want with a tablet PC. A screen of good seven inches, Internet connectivity, memory card slots, USB drive slots, good multimedia features and classy looks comes with usually every one of these. And they are quite popular among the buyers too,” shopkeeper in the New Market said.

Recently, Google is estimated to have sold one million unit of Google Nexus 7 tablet, which retails for $249 during Q3 2012. In the UK, it is a bestseller, outselling popular Samsung Galaxy Tab tablets and competitors. People want to have and use tablet PC, however price is also a very important deciding factor.
According to Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster in a research note, “Google likely sold 800k-1m Nexus 7s in Q3.” Profit is not the main success of the near million Nexus 7, apparently. The main goal of the Nexus 7 is to add more tablet PC market share because more Nexus 7 owners will allow Android to attract tablet PC app developers.

Dreaming of $99 Google Nexus
Dreaming of getting good quality, reference tablet, Google Nexus for $99 ? Well, soon it will come to reality. Google is reported to be working with Quanta Computer to create a single processor tablet to launch by the end of the year. Google Nexus is by far a bestseller. This is likely Google answer to Apple iPad Mini, set to launch by the end of October.
Google might soon launch a cheaper Nexus tablet.
The company is currently working with Taiwan-based Quanta Computer to produce a $99 Nexus tablet boasting a single-core processor that will launch by the end of this year, Digitimes is reporting today, citing sources. According to the tech-news blog's sources, the tablet isn't being developed in partnership with Asus, the company that helped Google build its Nexus 7. The cheaper tablet is, at least right now, separate from the Nexus 7 lineup.
Digitimes reported on the possibility of a new Nexus tablet last month, saying that Google was prepping a version that would cost $99, as well as another that would retail for $199. At that time, the blog indicated that the device would be called the Nexus 7 and would be developed in partnership with Asus. Its sources seem to indicate now that neither of those are claims are true.Source: CNET
